In response to the plight of over 3.5 million people in the northern region of Kenya facing starvation, the private sector and the general public launched a massive fund-raising initiative on 27th July 2011 dubbed ‘KENYANS for KENYA’.
The initiative administered by relief agency - Kenya Red Cross Society has a target of raising Ksh1 billion.
Bata Shoe Company Kenya joined in the efforts to tackle food crisis in the Northern region by further boosting the famine response initiative with a one hundred and fifty thousand shillings donation. The cheque worth Ksh150,000 was presented by Mr. P. Giathi, HR Manager and Ms. Sophia Mbogo, BCP Coordinator.

During the handing over ceremony, the Partnership Manager KRCS Rosemary Mutunkei thanked Bata Kenya for their contribution and added that the funds will go a long way in alleviating starvation and other mitigating factors to the hungry in the northern region of Kenya which has been adversely affected by prolonged drought.
