The agreement signing ceremony of the Rwanda Franchise agreement between Bata Shoe Company and Mugo Group, by Mr. Njue Mugo and Mr. Rino Rizzo, was held at the TRIBE Hotel, Nairobi on 7th June, 2011. Through the signing of this agreement, BSO now has an opportunity of penetrating this vibrant, new market - Rwanda.
The Mugo Group / Bata Shoe Company (K) Ltd. partnership dates back to 1974, with the opening of the first store - Bata Embu 1 in Eastern Kenya.
Over the years, the franchise partnership with the Mugo Group has grown in leaps and bounds, with 10 retail stores in Kenya, currently managed by the Group. The stores are located in various agricultural areas that include Meru, Embu and Nyeri towns, among others.
A Bata store opening in Kigali from mid-June will be managed by the Mugo group who will be operating under the name of MESGO – Kigali. Mr. Mugo anticipates that in the Rwanda market, 2 more stores will be opened before the end of the year, and a further 4 new stores by 2014.
