The AIC Mbooni Childrens home was founded in 1895 by a missionary, Mr. Peter Cameron Scott to cater for orphans, abandoned children, and the children living in extreme poverty in the region.

Currently, the Home supports over 200 children with some of them fully accommodated at the premises, while others live with foster parents but are still supported by the home. For example, they benefit from donations by well wishers.

It was a long journey to the Mbooni Childrens Home in Makueni District, Eastern Kenya. The Bata team left Limuru at half past six in the morning to arrive at noon. On reaching, they were received by the administrators of the home together with Prof. Judith Bahemuka, former Kenyan ambassador to Canada, and a neighbour of the Home.

After a guided tour around the home, and entertainment, the Bata team mingled with the children and distributed the goodies they had brought with them. At the end of the day, each child had become a proud owner of a brand new pair of Bata school shoes, commonly known as toughies.
