The much anticipated opening of the first Bata Destination store in Kenya finally took place. In a very colourful ceremony, Bata Embakasi was officially opened on Saturday,18th June 2011.
With over 6,800 square feet of display/selling area, Bata Embakasi is arguably the largest shoe shop in East and Central Africa. The store’s interior layout has borrowed greatly from the Bata 2011 City concept manual and due to the expansive selling area, distinct branded sections such as Marie Claire, Safari and Bubblegummers have been set apart and are clearly discernable.
Officiating the opening was Mr Jorge Carbajal, president, Bata Emerging Markets – Africa and Asia. Mr. Carbajal said the location, merchandising and size of the store were very impressive and he predicted good sales right from its first year.
Also appreciated during the opening was the presence of Bishop Kimani of the neighboring Joy Christian Fellowship Church, who has been instrumental in supporting the renovation of the parking area and welcoming the Bata fraternity in the area.
The opening of this store, marks Bata's entry into the densely populated Nairobi Eastlands market.
